Itinerary: Fly and Drive
DAY 1: Arrival to the magical Faroe Islands and see the largest mailbox in the world.
Arrival to the Faroe Islands.
Pick up your rental car at the airport and drive over hill and valley via Tórshavn to Sandoy. From there, drive to Sandoy using the new subsea tunnel that opened in December 2023, linking the ferry harbor at Gamlarætt to the island.
Continue on to the small village on the island where you will stay for the next 3 nights at a summerhouse.
DAY 2: Saga island Sandoy - Vikings and witches.
The island of Sandoy, also called the Saga Island, is a large playground with something for everyone. Explore the beach, the picturesque villages, the sheep grazing on the green mountain sides, and the lakes where you can fish.
In the old days, there lived many witches, trolls and Vikings on the island, so there are plenty of exciting stories. Enjoy a village walk in Sandur together with a local - maybe, just maybe you will walk past the stone, where you still clearly can see a witch's footprint.
Afterwards we suggest a drive to the stone beach at Søltuvík (great place for a picnic)
DAY 3: Enjoy the day and meet many cute sheep and mabye more Vikings.
Enjoy the day on your own. It is also possible to visit the nearby Viking Island Skúvoy. This is the place where the viking chieftain Sigmundur Brestisson was born. Here he built the Faroe Islands' first Christian church, and is buried.
For an extra fee you can pre-book a village walk on Skúvoy and visit the locals where cake, juice and coffee is served.
DAY 4: Explore the capital Tórshavn and the medieval town á Reyni.
Enjoy the day in the worlds' smallest capital, Tórshavn. Take an exploratory walk through the old part of town, Reyn, with its narrow streets and grass roofs -remember to respect the privacy of the people living in the old houses.
There's also the opportunity to swim and visit he nice little aquarium, Sjósavnið, which features saltwater fish from the sea around the islands.
If you like, go by ferry to the nearby island, Nólsoy, to see where a Scottish princess once lived and to see Ro-Ove's boat, Diana Victoria. He rowed alone all the way to Langelinie in Denmark to kiss the Little Mermaid.
Accommodation in chosen holiday home on the island of Streymoy or on the island of Eysturoy, where you will stay for the next 4 nights.
DAY 5, DAY 6 and DAY 7: Great days to do as you please.
Three whole days to enjoy on our own with lots of room for spontaneity and relaxation.
DAY 8: Departure from the Faroe Islands.
Return the rental car at the airport. Departure with flight from the Faroe Islands.
