Discover the North Atlantic nature unfold before your eyes

This tour starts in Greenland where you will stay in the small town of Ilulissat (Jakobshavn), known for the Icefjord. The glacier, the people and the massive icebergs are an amazing experience. In Iceland, you will stay in the vibrant city of Reykjavík. Iceland’s nature is intense with a volcanic landscape and hot springs. The capital of Tórshavn will be your home whilst you visit the Faroe Islands. Enjoy a close encounter with the dramatic nature, sheep, birdlife, colourful villages, vertical cliffs and the nearby islands.

Itinerary: Individual tour 

THURSDAY: Arrival to Greenland and see the majestic icebergs.
Depart with Air Greenland from Copenhagen to Ilulissat. Your first stop is in Nuuk where you change flight to Ilulissat. Already on your decent to Ilulissat you will see the ice. Transfer from the airport to your overnight accommodation.

After check-inn go for a walk around town and inhale the atmosphere. The colorful houses are painted in a rainbow of shades, and the giant icebergs float by in the Disko Bay just outside of town. Ilulissat offers various restaurants and cafés where you can enjoy fabulous food – often with a spectacular view. 

Spend the night in Ilulissat.

FRIDAY: Enjoy one of the world's most beautiful vantage points over the ice. 
Guided tour to the ancient settlement of Sermermiut. The beautiful icebergs of Ilulissat create the wing for the abandoned settlement Sermermiut, which is situated one and a half kilometer south of the city.

The different Inuit cultures have lived here during the last 4000 years, and today you can still find artifacts, which witness their presence.

Hear the story about the life and the customs of the Greenlanders before the Europeans´ arrival; see the ruins and the kitchen mitten. From here is one of the world's most beautiful vantage points over the ice.

On the outskirts of town you can see and hear the sled dogs. The dogs are chained, but their puppies roam free.

Spend the night in Ilulissat.

SATURDAY: Boat tour among the huge icebergs of the Ilulissat Icefjord
Boat tour among the huge icebergs of the Ilulissat Icefjord. These large pieces of ice have broken off from the most productive glacier in the northen hemisphere.

The glacier flows about 30 metres per day producing approximately 20 billion tons of ice every year. Form the Icefjord the icebergs float by the town of Ilulissat and continue north before turning south and into the Atlantic Ocean. 

Spend the night in Ilulissat.

SUNDAY: Day on your own. Additional excursions can be purchased, but must be pre-booked. For example:

  • Daytour to Eqi Glacier:
    The Eqi Sermia Glacier is called the "calving glacier" because ice breaks off from it more frequently than other glaciers. The excursion to the Eqi Sermia glacier it gives you the opportunity to get very close to the inland ice and to see the calving phenomenon. At the glacier the boat stops approx 500 metres from it so you can admire the calving.
  • Meet the sleddogs:  
    On this excursion we invite you to join the feeding of a dog-team. You can see, feel, touch and most of all hear the howling of up to 20 hungry dogs. The owner will demonstrate the sled, the harness, and the whip and tell about the life as sled-dog in Greenland.
  • Ilulissat kayaking: 
    Paddle in a kayak and witness the overwhelming beauty of icebergs coming from the Ilulissat Icefiord.

Spend the night in Ilulissat.

MONDAY: Arrival to Iceland. Explore Reykjavík.
Check out from accommodation and transfer to the airport. Depart with Air Iceland to Reykjavík.

After check-inn go for a walk in Reykjavík, which is the home of the vast majority of Iceland's inhabitants. It is the center of culture and life of the Icelandic people.The city itself is spread out, with sprawling suburbs, but the city centre is a very small area characterised by eclectic and colourful houses, good shopping and dining.

Spend the night in Reykjavík.

TUESDAY: Day on your own. Additional excursions can be purchased, but must be pre-booked. For example:

  • Whale safari boat tour:
    You can expect to see Minke Whales, Harbour Porpoises, White-beaked Dolphins and Humpback Whales. Killer Whales and Bone-Sharks are sometimes spotted as well.
  • South Coast and Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon:
    On this tour you will travel along South Iceland's coast on the narrow strip of lush farmland that cuts between mountains, glaciers and the vast Atlantic Ocean. The route is lined with natural treasures including the iconic Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss waterfalls, Skaftafell National Park and Vatnajökull glacier to name but a few. Possible to add-on Glacier Lagoon boat tour 30 min.
  • Blue Lagoon:
    Enjoy the Blue Lagune, where you can relax and enjoy the warm water, which is salty and rich in minerals and has a healing effect.

Spend the night in Reykjavík.

WEDNESDAY: Sightseeing - The Golden Circle. Geysir, Gullfoss and Thingvellir.
Pick up at the accommodation for the day tour. On the Golden Circle Tour you can walk around the world-famous Geysir geothermal area, a geothermal field where hot springs are in abundance, geysers explode and pools of mud bubble.

One of the Golden Circles many highlights is the Gullfoss waterfall, the queen of Iceland's waterfalls.

Finally, but no less spectacular is a visit to the Þingvellir National Park. This is the original site of the oldest existing parliament in the world. The Great Atlantic rift is clearly visible, a rift that is slowly pulling Iceland apart along tectonic plates.

Spend the night in Reykjavík.

FRIDAY:  Arrival to the Faroe Islands. Explore Tórshavn.
Check out from accommodation. Depart with Atlantic Airways to the Faroe Islands (Vágar Airport). Transfer from the airport to your overnight accommodation.

After check-inn go for a walk in Tórshavn through the old part of town, Reyn and Tinganes. You will find your­self in a con­fusion of lanes and narrow passages, steps and rocks and tiny black-tarred houses with white windows and green turfed roofs. This area is unique not only in the Faroes but in the world.

You will also find various restaurants and cafés where you can enjoy excellent food – Enjoy fresh local fish and meat. 

Spend the night in Tórshavn.

SATURDAY: Daytour to Nólsoy

Your guide will pick you up at the hotel. Only a 20-minute sail across the strait, and you are in another world. Nólsoy offers various unique sites and experiences in the village, an excursion to one of the world’s largest storm petrel colonies on the east side, or just a quiet stroll among colourful houses, enchanting locals and a charming harbour. 

Spend the night in Tórshavn.

SUNDAY:  Boat trip to the Vestmanna Cliffs. 
Start the day by exploring Tórshavn on your own. After lunch, you will be picked up at the accommodation. Excursion to the Vestmanna Cliffs. Via the mountain road to the village of Vestmanna where the excursion boat awaits. This tour will take you through narrow sounds, into deep grottoes carved by the surf through ages, and close to the 1500 feet high-rise cliffs where seabirds are nesting.

On the return to Tórshavn there is a stop at the Viking settlements in the village Kvívík.

MONDAY: Day on your own. Additional excursions can be purchased, but must be pre-booked. For example:

  • Highlights of the Faroe Islands: Highlights of the Faroe Islands tour is a full-day experience that allows you to experience the best of Streymoy and Eysturoy, the two central islands of the Faroes. On this tour, you will get to see the highest waterfall in the Faroe Islands up close, walk the black sands of Tjørnuvík, see the Giant and the Witch sea stacks, hike the Islands’ highest mountain* and visit the uniquely beautiful village of Gjógv.

Spend the night in Tórshavn.

TUESDAY: Departure from Copenhagen.

  • Sailing in Greenland can be very cold, but beautiful! Remember to bring warm clothing, camera and binoculars.

  • Time difference between Greenland and Denmark is +4 hours. Denmark is 4 hours ahead of Greenland. Time difference between Iceland and Greenland is -2 hours. Iceland is 2:0 hours ahead of Greenland. Time difference between Iceland and Faroe Islands is +1 hour. Faroe Islands is 1 hour ahead of Iceland.
  • The Ilulissat Icefjord was declared a UNESCO Word Heritage Site in 2004.
  • The package tour is on your own, but guide is on the excursions. The number of persons on the excursions can vary from a few in Greenland to up to a big bus size in Iceland and the Faroe Islands.
  • The hotels are 3 to 4 star hotels with breakfast.
