The focus is on native sheep breeds and wool production in the North Atlantic region. This conference brings together farmers, researchers, artisans, and enthusiasts who share an interest in the conservation and promotion of native sheep breeds and their wool.

Key Aspects of the Conference:
Native Sheep Breeds: The conference emphasizes the importance of preserving native sheep breeds, which are often well-adapted to the local climate and landscapes of the North Atlantic region. These breeds include those from Iceland, The Faroe Islands, Greenland, Norway, Shetland, Orkneys, Outer Hebrides and Isle of Man.

Sustainability and Conservation: There is a strong focus on sustainable farming practices, conservation of genetic diversity, and the cultural heritage associated with these sheep breeds. The event often discusses issues related to breeding, grazing, and the challenges of maintaining traditional farming methods.

Wool and Textile Arts: The conference showcases the unique qualities of wool from these native breeds, which can be distinct in terms of texture, color, and durability. There are typically workshops and demonstrations on wool processing, spinning, weaving, and other textile arts.

Knowledge Sharing and Networking: The event serves as a platform for knowledge exchange among participants. It provides opportunities for networking, learning about the latest research, sharing best practices, and exploring new markets for wool products.

Cultural and Historical Context: The conference often includes discussions on the cultural and historical significance of sheep farming in the North Atlantic region, highlighting how these practices have shaped the livelihoods and traditions of local communities.

The North Atlantic Native Sheep and Wool Conference is an important gathering for those interested in the sustainable development of the sheep and wool industry, with a particular focus on native breeds that have a rich cultural and environmental heritage.
