See the old houses, complete with Christmas decorations and enjoy the cosy atmosphere, then visit the local tourist information to find out what’s going on in Tórshavn over the weekend.
Continue walking along the pedestrian precinct enjoying the Christmas stalls and beautiful Christmas tree. Soak up the festive atmosphere with the aroma of cakes and roasted almonds. The guided tour ends at the shopping centre SMS.
In the evening you will enjoy a delicious dinner in charming surroundings after which, you could end the day with a visit to Hvonn Brasserie where many of the locals gather.
SATURDAY: Shopping and Christmas fun in Torshavn.
After breakfast it is time to explore. At the far end of the pleasure boat marina is an exciting shop called Østrøm where you can look at and maybe even buy, some of the modern Faroese art and handicrafts. Next door is Steinprent, Faroes Graphic Workshop, visit their gallery where they have the most recent works on display.
Other exciting shops in the town are Tutl, selling Faroese music and pop-up special boutiques such as Staðið, Soulmade and Silvursnið. Make sure you take a look at the beautiful Faroese designed woollens in the latest fashions, available for example in the exciting workroom/boutique of Guðrun & Guðrun.
On the walk around town you will pass by the quaint old bookshop which is definitely worth a visit. We can warmly recommend the trendy sushi restaurant ETIKA when you feel like it’s time for lunch, or maybe Kaffehúsið down by the harbour, where you will also find a large selection of gifts for Christmas.
If you need a break from shopping, then we suggest you visit the Nordic House which is a cultural centre, or perhaps the Art Museum which houses a wide range of Faroese art showing how nature and the landscape has always been the dominating motif throughout its entire history.
For dinner, we suggest you join one of the local Christmas Dinner parties or eat in Restaurant Áarstova, an old preserved building situated in the centre of Tórshavn. It is a charming place with exposed beams, narrow doorways and odd angles – plenty of atmosphere and good food.
- Please note that Christmas Dinner parties and tables at Restaurant Áarstova must be booked in advance.
SUNDAY: Departure from Faroe Islands.
Check out after breakfast. If you have chosen the afternoon flight, then you have time to experience a Faroese church service with captivating hymn singing in the Cathedral next to the hotel. The shuttle bus will collect you from the hotel and drive you to the airport.
